Importing pre-existing PCFs

  • Updated

Learning outcomes

The learning outcomes from this module are:

  1. Be able to import PCF(s) that you have built using another tool or third-party software

Pre-existing PCFs

Your organization might already have a PCF that has been built using a third party, your own Excel-based method, or another software tool. With the M2030 platform, you can import this PCF to share it with your Buyer, saving you the time and effort of recreating it.

To import your PCF, it needs to meet the following criteria:

  • It must have a product set-up in your Product Catalogue.
  • It is calculated at the facility level.
  • It is measured in kg CO₂e per declared unit.
  • Its scope is cradle-to-gate.

Import a PCF | Platform walkthrough

There are four simple steps to importing your PCFs.

  1. Add the relevant Products to your Product Catalogue.

  2. Download the Import PCF template, linked at the bottom of this article.

  3. Complete the template, using the guidance in the walkthrough.

  4. Upload the completed template into the M2030 Platform.

Populating the import Excel file

Please ensure that for a new import, you download the latest version of the upload file from this article rather than a previously stored copy, as periodic updates are made to the Excel file.

  • Enter the name of the facility where the PCF is calculated

    • Ensure it matches the name used in the M2030 platform, precisely. If it doesn't match the name used in the M2030 platform, the upload will fail.

  • Enter the unique ID of the product, as set up in the M2030 platform in your Product Catalogue.

  • In the PCF Value excluding biogenic emissions column - enter the calculated PCF value in kg CO2e per declared unit.

    • Biogenic emissions refer to carbon dioxide (CO2) emissions released from the combustion, decomposition, or oxidation of biogenic materials;

    • These materials are derived from biological sources, such as plants, animals, and microorganisms, and include biomass, biofuels, and biogas; and are not to be included in the PCF value.

  • In the declared unit column - enter the measurement unit for analysis. Accepted units include:
    • kg

    • kWh

    • l

    • m2

    • m3

    • MJ

    • t(metric)-km

  • In the mass (kg) per declared unit column - enter the weight of one declared unit of the product

    • For example, if the declared unit is 50 liters, provide the mass of 1 liter.

  • Enter the year for which the PCF is created.
  • In the standard followed column - enter the methodology or standards used for calculating GHG emissions. Accepted options include:

    • PACT Methodology

    • Catena-X PCF Rulebook

    • Together for Sustainability

    • ISO14067

    • ISO14083

    • ISO14040-44

    • GHGP Product

    • PEF

    • PAS2050

    • Other product category rules (PCRs)

    • Environmental product declarations (EPDs)

    • Other published standard

    • No published standard.

What to expect after importing?

  • The import process may take a few minutes to complete.

  • You will receive a confirmation email once the import is successful.

  • Check your spam or junk folder if the confirmation email does not appear in your inbox.
