How to build your reduction plan

  • Updated

This article guides you on building and managing your Reduction Plan using platform tools and reports. It covers how to identify focus areas like energy, water, and waste by utilizing reports such as the CO2e & Resource Reduction Pathway Report. It also explains how to use the action library by shortlisting actions and moving them to in-progress/completed as well as how to move them from your reduction plan.

1. Find a focus area 🔎

The first step is to identify the focus area you'd like to work on. We recommend that you complete the Measurements section first as it will populate the reports mentioned below and help you identify key areas to reduce emissions and improve operational efficiency and cost savings.

 1. Identify inefficiencies within your manufacturing site such as energy, water, waste, etc. To identify these look at the Reports section.

CO2e & Resource Reduction Pathway Report: Tracks carbon reduction progress, financial and resource savings, and gaps from baseline year to future targets (organization or customer-specific)

CO2e & Resource Intensity Report: This report monitors changes in energy intensity per product unit, helping to track CO2, energy, water, and waste, even with fluctuating production scales.

See our article HERE for more information about the reports, including how interpret them and how to add your organization's targets.

2. Find relevant actions 💡

Our platform and therefore available actions are designed for manufacturers in all stages of their decarbonization journey. ease find more information here in our tutorial video: Navigate the Actions library

  • 1. Start by looking at your reports as outlined above. Based on the reports select specific focus areas and explore that you can make improvements on.

    2. Explore the actions under the categories 'Groundwork' & 'Quick Win'. These actions are easier to execute and help you to build a strong foundation

  • 1. Add anything you are already doing outside of M2030 by creating a new action. This helps to use a reduction plan as a centralized project management tool and showcase plans to your buyers.

    2. Look for ideas in our recommended section to continuously improve your reduction plan and meet your targets.

3. Manage your reduction plan 🔨

There are three stages to a reduction plan, shortlisted, in progress and completed. Click through the slides to see how to progress an action.

Have an action to add with no direct savings?
Actions like educational programs for employees can still be logged in your Reduction Plan.

To ensure visibility, add a clear description in the internal notes section and include an indicator in the action title for your customers.

Whilst it's hard to see the direct savings from that action, If future resource savings occur without other contributing actions, you can reasonably attribute those savings to that action.

4. How to mark the 'build reduction plan' step as completed ✅?

To mark your reduction plan as completed on the platform, you need to add one or more Actions that are:

  • completed in 2024 with Scope 1&2 CO2e savings data
  • or in progress with Scope 1&2 CO2e savings data and a target date

However, your customers encourages you to add as many reduction plans as you can through the platform, as this will show your progress in decarbonizing and tackling your footprint more accurately through the report.
